ANNOTATION: This study attempts to determine those factors which are related to the recidivism of offenders in the Montana Department of Corrections Pre-release Centers (PRCs). Sections of this report include: introduction; methodology; identifying variables of interest; sample description and selected statistical findings for length of stay, age, gender, place of origin, education, and criminal history; mental illness and chemical dependency in the PRCs; predictive modules and return to the system -- recidivism across waves, recidivism, mental illness and chemical involvement, LSIR and other tools as predictors, and work, money and recidivism; current data collection methods utilized by PRCs -- implications for evaluation and recommendations; summary of types of treatment interventions/programs being used at PRCs; and conclusion.
