Barriers to Employment: Prison Time

Publication year: 2007 | Cataloged on: May. 24, 2007
ANNOTATION: The legal and transportation problems faced by released Wisconsin prisoners seeking employment are examined. Sections contained in this paper include: introduction; recommendations; methodology; findings on release and admission rates for incarcerated population from Milwaukee County; findings for the population released from Wisconsin correctional facilities since 1993 and living in Milwaukee County; and characteristics of the currently incarcerated population from Milwaukee County. Having a valid driver's license is more important to finding and keeping a job than education. Unfortunately, 62% of released prisoners will not have access to a driver's license in order to get to 75% of the jobs available.
