Sex Offender Management Surveys

ANNOTATION: Three surveys providing information regarding the management of sex offenders are provided. Questions asked for each survey are noted.

“SO Legislation-Registration Information Survey 4-2007.” Has your state passed sex-offender-specific legislation? Does your state require sex offender registration? How does your state define “sex offender”? Are sex offenders classified into tiers/levels, and if so, how (assessment, statute, policy)? Does your state have a residential restriction requirement and if so describe? What is the maximum duration of sex offender supervision in your jurisdiction? Does your state require electronic monitoring for sex offenders? Does your state have specialized sex offender officers? Is sex offender-specific training provided in your state, and if so, how much?

“SO Assessment Information Survey 4-2007.” Does your state use a sex offender specific assessment tool? Does your state use a general offender (risk/needs) assessment tool? Does your state conduct mandatory pre-sentence investigations? Other assessment information/additional comment.

“ICAOS GPS Update Survey April 2007.” Is your state using GPS for sex offenders, and if yes for how long? Is the GPS supervision active, passive, or both? How many offenders do you have on GPS at any given time? Did you hire additional staff when you established GPS? Has GPS improved the quality of supervision of sex offenders or is it still in the evaluation stage? How long did it take your staff to adjust to the use of GPS equipment? How long did it take for you to become confident in your officer’s response to alerts? Does your state have automatic mapping available to local law enforcement? and Who is your state’s vendor(s)?
