Restorative Justice: What Is It and Does It Work?
Publication year:
2007
| Cataloged on:
Sep. 11, 2007
ANNOTATION: Pros and cons associated with restorative justice are reviewed. This article is comprised of the following sections: abstract; introduction -- concepts, definitions, and purposes of restorative justice; forms and models of restorative justice; critiques of restorative justice; empirical assessments of whether restorative justice works; and the future of restorative justice -- challenges and opportunities. While restorative justice has been shown to reduce recidivism and reoffense rates (in many programs), "important and serious questions [exist] about whether restorative justice should be supplemental or substitutional of more conventional legal processes" (p. 161).
