ANNOTATION: This issue includes three articles about probation efforts in Illinois. "Juvenile Reform, Specialized Services Help Fuel Fight Against Probationer Recidivism: Probation at Center of State Juvenile Justice Reform" by Jessica Ashley reviews the following initiatives -- Redeploy Illinois, Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI), Models for Change, and balanced and restorative justice (BARJ). "Gender-Specific Issues at Heart of Specialized Women Probation Program" by Adrianne Frederick looks at program in Lake County helping women deal with the trauma in their lives leading to reduced recidivism. "Needs Assessed, Evidence-Based Practices Measured in Probation Research Initiatives" by Cristin Monti Evans briefly describes two research initiatives that "will help shape probation policy and services throughout Illinois" (p. 6).
