Pretrial Detention and Case Outcomes, Part 1: Nonfelony Cases. Final report
Publication year:
2007
| Cataloged on:
Dec. 14, 2007
ANNOTATION: The relationship between pretrial detention and case outcomes for nonfelons is examined. This report is comprised of these sections: introduction; methodology; extent and duration of pretrial detention; effect of bail amount on detention; effect of detention on conviction; effect of detention on incarceration; effect of detention on sentence length; and summary and discussion. It appears that "simply being held in jail prior to disposition of the [nonfelony] case does have an adverse effect on case outcomes, especially the likelihood of conviction" (p. 56).
