ANNOTATION: The use of GPS (global positioning system) to track sex offenders in New Jersey is evaluated. This report contains the following sections: background; results appear to show GPS monitoring significantly reduces recidivism; implementation of the GPS program; the technology; sex offender treatment and polygraph testing; GPS case examples; and conclusion. Only one of the 225 sex offenders monitored by GPS has been accused of a new sex crime.
