The Effectiveness of Correctional Rehabilitation: A Review of Systematic Reviews
Publication year:
2007
| Cataloged on:
Jan. 15, 2008
ANNOTATION: The impact of correctional rehabilitation on recidivism is examined via a review of completed meta-analyses. Sections in addition to an abstract are: introduction; the effects of sanctions and supervision on recidivism; the effects of rehabilitation treatment on recidivism; and conclusion -- correctional intervention and public safety. "The research reviewed here demonstrates that there are rehabilitation treatments with the potential to substantially reduce the recidivism of offenders in the correctional system and, in that way, reduce crime and enhance public safety" (p. 314). Unfortunately, corrections currently operates under a punitive manner resulting in little if any intervention of a rehabilitative nature, the research and actual practice, according to the authors.
