ANNOTATION: The reduction of recidivism by institutional rehabilitation programs for serious (violent or chronic) juvenile offenders is examined. Sections following a consumer synopsis and an abstract are: background; objectives; methodology; results; discussion; implications for practice and research; implications for criminal policy; and conclusion. Cognitive or cognitive-behavioral interventions work best "to reduce the general and, specially, the serious recidivism of serious institutionalized juvenile offenders" (p. 26).
