ANNOTATION: The question of whether U.S. prison administrators can force-feed a prisoner engaged in a hunger strike is examined. This article contains these sections: introduction; examination of authorization and direction provided to prison authorities in regard to inmate hunger strikes; the adequacy of current authorization to cope with hunger-striking inmates; standards should be articulated for prison administrators regarding responses to hunger-striking inmates; and conclusion.
