Understanding the Experiences and Needs of Children of Incarcerated Parents: Views from Mentors

ANNOTATION: Observations made by focus groups composed of individuals working with children of incarcerated parents about the lives of these children are reported. A few key findings are: mom's incarceration is harder on a child than having dad incarcerated; release and reintegration of a parent is a particularly difficult time; negative behavioral outcomes result from parental incarceration; and children with incarcerated parents have a range of critical needs.
