Criminal Victimisation in International Perspective: Key Findings from the 2004-2005 ICVS and EU ICS

ANNOTATION: Key findings are provided from the fifth sweep for the International Crime Victim Surveys (ICVS) of 2004/05 and the European Survey on Crime and Safety (EU ICS). Results from this report are organized into the following areas: victimization by any common crime; victimization by vehicle related crimes (theft); victimization by burglary and other theft; victimization by contact crimes (i.e., robbery, sexual offences, and assaults and threats); victimization by non-conventional crimes (i.e., consumer fraud, corruption, hate crimes in the European Union, and exposure to drug-related problems in developed countries); victimization trends; victimization and police recorded crime; reporting crimes to the police and victim satisfaction; victim support; fear of crime; security precautions; public attitudes to law enforcement; public opinion and punishment; and twenty years of comparative crime victim surveying.
