Aggression and Violence, Post-Traumatic Stress, and Absenteeism Among Employees in Penitentiaries

ANNOTATION: Results from an assessment of violence and aggression amongst penitentiary personnel are provided. Sections of this report are: introduction; possible effects of aggression and violence among employees and factors causing them; construction and testing of the hypothetical model; research results; exploratory study; and summary and conclusions. While "violent experiences among penitentiary workers do not automatically result in posttraumatic stress . . . it seems possible to reduce the amount of absenteeism among penitentiary workers by preventing posttraumatic stress" (p. 46-47).
