ANNOTATION: Principles of effective intervention and recidivism reduction are described. Eight principles are covered: assess offender risk/need levels using actuarial instruments; enhance offender motivation; target interventions; provide skill training for staff and monitor their delivery of services; increase positive reinforcement; engage outgoing support in natural communities; measure relevant processes/practices; and provide measurement feedback. The Level of Service Inventory-Revised (LSI-r) is also explained.
