About the National Corrections Academy

This Offender Exit Survey is given to an offender upon their release from community supervision. It is comprised of 11 questions ranging from “I was treated with respect by my supervising officer” to “Overall, I was pleased with how my supervision went.”

Effective prison leadership and administrative skills are discussed during this 36-hour training program. Topics covered include: wellness; institutional culture; ethics and integrity; fiscal management; labor and workforce management; central ofice; constituents; media; and balancing work and personal life.

Effective implementation of data and cost-benefit analysis in correctional settings is discussed during a 83 minute video. Presentations included in this session are “Improve Outcomes and Save Money” by Steve Aos, and “A Case (Study) for Cost-Benefit Analysis in Justice Policy & Planning” by Tina Chiu. Links are provided to the presenters’ slides.

About the National Institute of Corrections

We are an agency within the U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons. The Institute is headed by a Director appointed by the U.S. Attorney General. A 16-member Advisory Board, also appointed by the Attorney General, was established by the enabling legislation (Public Law 93-415) to provide policy direction to the Institute.
