ANNOTATION: The utilization of conducted energy devices (CEDs) (i.e., Taser, Stinger, stun belt, shock stick, and stun shield) in jails is investigated. Results are provided for: various missions the sheriff’s office performs; allowance of deputies to warn prisoners of impending CED use; the types of CEDs used and amount owned; types of transportation used to convey offenders and how often CEDs were activated during transport in 2005; CED use with mentally ill inmates; locations that prisoners are maintained in; types of CEDs authorized according to location; location that attempted escape occurred from (if any); what policy covers CED use; and any policy limitations regarding CED utilization. Also include is the "Recommended General Order for Use of Conducted Energy Devices."
