ANNOTATION: Results are presented from a validity study of the Wisconsin Department of Corrections DOC 502 Risk Scale. Seven sections follow an executive summary: introduction; review of relevant risk assessment issues; scope of work; methodology; results for distribution of populations by risk factors, percent new offense by risk factors, distribution of risk groups, outcomes of risk group -- new offense within 3 years and new assaultive offense within 3 years, and correlation of risk factors to committing new offense -- improving the predictive ability; special analysis; and summary and recommendations. The authors find the DOC 502 Risk Scale needs some important revisions.
