ANNOTATION: Survey results from 48 paroling authorities (43 states, U.S. Parole Commission, U.S. Air Force, National Parole Board of Canada, Canadian Province Board of Ontario, and the Parole Board of Hong Kong) are provided. Topics covered include: current status of the board releasing authority and other duties beyond the releasing function; parole board terms and number of members; board appointments required by state to have certain qualifications; budgets; board required by statute to have a face-to-face hearing with all inmates considered for parole; parole board can initially set an inmate for a file review before a hearing; board can release an inmate based on only a file review; new duties and tasks; violation hearings, revocations, and successful discharge; and inmates considered for parole and face to face hearings.
