Gender identity is “a person’s sense of their own gender, which is communicated to others by their gender expression.” Objectives for this presentation are: define key terms related to Gender Identity Disorder (GID); review the diagnostic criteria for GID); implement the Bureau’s new GID policy; review the history of transgender issues, to include relevant legal issues; identify World Professional Organization for Transgendered Health (WPATH) standards of care for GID; and review co-occurring disorders commonly associated with GID.
