The National Offender Workforce Development Partnership (NOWDP) is a collaboration developed by staff representing the U.S. Department of Labor, the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, Office of Probation and Pretrial Services; the Federal Bureau of Prisons; the National Institute of Corrections; the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs; and the Legal Action Center - National Hire Network.

Mission

The mission of the partnership is to facilitate a transitional approach to apprenticeships and employment strategies for ex-offenders. The ultimate goal of the partnership is to enhance reentry success through increased opportunities for career-oriented employment of ex-offenders.   • Forecast what occupations are, and will likely remain, in demand by the private sector;
  • Ensure that institution apprenticeship and vocational training programs are consistent with industry-wide accepted standards;
  • Develop measurable criteria for the different levels of skills needed for industry jobs;
  • Identify and address related barriers to offender employment;
  • Provide current industry related programs and training; and
  • Share information efficiently among all involved.
