What is a Knowledge Product?



The Norval Morris Project will create a variety of innovative knowledge products. Some will be specific to the topic areas identified and developed each year. Currently, interdiciplinary teams are focusing on the topics of Corrections Workforce Transformation and Safely Reducing the Corrections Population. These teams will generate topic-related knowledge products that will enhance the services that corrections and human services deliver to their clients. Each year of the Project, two more topic areas will be identified. Some knowledge products may be linked to the study of interdisciplinary teams or dissemination and management of knowledge.

As knowledge products are generated by the working groups and staff, they will be posted on this website, allowing others to use and respond to them.

Current Knowledge Products



Literature Analyses
One way of consolidating top thinking from a variety of disciplines is to analyze its literatures. To provide an initial research foundation for the Norval Morris Project, literature analyses were conducted for the topics of Organizational Culture and the Transfer of Innovations. Over 1200 articles were reviewed through search engines, databases, and communication with experts in this field. Of these articles, 350 were reviewed more closely, with more than 100 receiving a thorough review. Summaries of the most seminal and best researched articles from these ongoing analyses are posted in a searchable Project database.

Literature Analyses Topic Matrices
For each topic area, one key knowledge product will be a matrix listing resources that have proven highly informative, well written, and well researched, and/or that present concepts with the potential to move the field in a new direction. Matrices include identifying information and ratings for each document. Current matrices address the topics of Organizational Culture and the Transfer of Innovation.

Top Articles
In the above literature analysis matrices, articles that were informative, well written, and well researched were ranked “4,” while those that went beyond these criteria to present ideas with the potential to move the field in a new direction were given a ranking of “5.” Click on the following links to view summaries of these top articles for the topics of Organizational Culture and the Transfer of Innovation.

Process for Building Your Own Norval Morris Project
NIC and J-SAT documented the process used to create this project, providing a model for other organizations to use to move their systems in more innovative, evidence-based directions. The discovery and dissemination of innovations, knowledge, and ideas can help a wide range of human service fields to enhance the services they provide to clients, communities, and other stakeholders.
