:: HOME > Training for Corrections ... > Regional training is the development of training programs and resources for state and local agencies. Through a project called the Regional Training Initiative, NIC provides assistance and funding for the regional training through an organized group of volunteer trainers (Regional Field Coordinators).

Central Region States: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin; Northeast Region States: Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and West Virginia; Sourthern Region States: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Lousiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virgin Islands; Western Region States: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Mariana Islands, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington

Regional training is important to...

...correctional agencies because:
  • Your voice and training concerns are represented at a national level;
  • You gain visibility as an agency dedicated to training and as a provider of national-caliber training;
  • You receive reciprocal support from other regional training efforts;
  • You receive funding assistance to meet training requirements and goals;
  • Your in-kind contributions have a greater impact when coupled with NIC support.
...participating correctional trainers (Regional Field Coordinators or RFCs) because:
  • You will foster your professional development;
  • You will gain a broader perspective on correctional issues, responses, and training strategies;
  • You have an opportunity to work with other bright and motivated colleagues.
...citizens/taxpayers because:
  • Your federal tax dollars are being spent on improving and developing resources in your local community;
  • Training programs and resources developed for your region are re-used nationally to maximize taxpayer benefits.

The success of the Project is made possible by the generous in-kind and funding support of the volunteer agencies and other participating groups. The Project is coordinated by the NIC Academy Division.
