SENIOR-LEVEL PROFILE

The senior-level leader is responsible for the overall management of a division, institution, field services, or another major organizational component of a correctional agency/organization such as administrative, program, and support services

Responsible for:

  • Implementing the correctional agency's vision and mission
  • Implementing goals and objectives that align and/or develop the organizational and administrative systems and evaluation processes that support the correctional agency's mission
  • Building an organizational culture within the division that supports attainment of desired outcomes
  • Coordinating and managing the development and oversight of the budget and finances to ensure congruence with the correctional agency's vision and mission
  • Managing the external environment, including relations with other departments, agencies, organizations, the community, and stakeholders
  • Influencing and developing public policy that supports agency's mission
  • Creating and maintaining a competent and diverse workforce

Examples of senior-level positions:

  • Director/Deputy Director of Probation, Parole, Community Corrections
  • Director/Deputy Director of Division of Institutions/Prisons
  • Regional or District Director of Field Services or Prison System
  • Warden/Superintendent
  • Jail Administrator/Juvenile Detention Director
  • Deputy Jail Administrator (Large Systems)
  • Industries Director/Deputy Director
  • Medical or Programs Services Director/Deputy Director
  • Capital Program Director/Deputy Director
  • Director/Deputy Director of Human Resources, Budget, or Information Services
