The Mentally Ill in Jail: Whose Problem Is It Anyway?

Completed on Jul. 15, 2009--On July 15, 2009, the National Institute of Corrections will host a live 3-hour satellite/Internet broadcast to provide an overview of opportunities that can help your organization prepare to work with persons suffering from mental illness in jails.

Overview

Is your organization asking questions similar to the ones below?

What must I do to ease the healthcare process for my employees?
How do we manage the special needs of persons with mental illness?
How do I improve existing programs for treating persons with mental illness in jail?
What strategies can we develop to help us garner stakeholder support in designing
appropriate mental health treatment programs?

Mental health issues in the criminal justice system are a communitywide problem, and corrections stakeholders, including government officials and corrections personnel, all have a role in identifying creative programs and solutions that tackle the problem at its core. This video conference broadcast will investigate the scope of the problem and propose creative solutions from model programs across the nation that you can implement in your own communities.
