Learning and Performance: Realigning Training to Achieve Agency Goals
Mar. 19, 2014--This 3-hour broadcast is brought to you by the National Institute of Corrections and is intended to help realign your training with agency outcomes to help your agency become a learning organization.
This broadcast is designed especially for agency leaders wanting to:
- Get the most from their agency in terms of superior employee performance
- Improve outcomes
- Promote and support innovation
- Enhance their ability to manage change
- Recruit, retain, and motivate an energized, committed workforce
Using a variety of methods—including discussions, participant and team activities, and demonstrations—the broadcast will explore learning organization principles as exemplified by the work of David Garvin, Peter Senge and others.
Is Your Organization Looking for Answers to the Following Questions?
- How much of your learning content is tied directly to your agency objectives?
- When do leaders in your agency engage the training department?
- How would you describe the value of training in your agency?
- On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being most important, how important is staff performance to agency effectiveness?
During this discussion, participants will:
- Recognize the importance of linking training to agency outcomes
- Identify three building blocks for creating a learning organization
- Explore ways to realign organizations to support the link between training and agency outcomes
This event is open to anyone interested in this topic but the following are highly encouraged to participate:
- Leadership in correctional agencies across disciplines and jurisdictions, including federal, state, local and tribal agencies from prisons, jails, and community corrections, including parole and probation.
- Recommend attendance in four-person agency leadership teams: chief executive officer, training director, and two other members of executive team, such as your chief financial officer, human resources director, and/or chief operations officer
- Leadership interested in making a transformational change in their agency related to the way they view and value the training function in their agency
- Human resources professionals in corrections
- Correctional association members (ACA, AJA, APPA, etc.)
- Learning and performance professionals in corrections, including correctional training directors, administrators, coordinators, instructors, curriculum designers, developers, and evaluators
- Staff from colleges and universities with criminal justice programs
- Privatized correctional facility leaders and staff
