ANNOTATION: [These standards] are intended to guide those who develop, revise, coordinate, and/or conduct SAFE [sexual assault forensic examiner] training regarding the minimum levels of instruction necessary to prepare candidates for their role" (p. 1). This document is divided into three parts: introduction (background and overall recommendations); didactic content -- recommended topics (overarching issues, operational issues, and the examination process; and clinical practice content -- recommendation. "A National Protocol for Sexual Assault Medical Forensic Examinations: Adults/Adolescents" (NIC accession no. 020532) is a companion document to these training standards.
