Gun Courts

Publication year: 2008 | Cataloged on: Mar. 21, 2013
ANNOTATION: Gun courts from around the United States are highlighted. If your agency is looking for strategies for addressing firearm violations, gun courts are a viable choice. Gun courts provide “a two-fold benefit to the participating jurisdiction(s): potential offenders are deterred from committing firearm offenses when they see serious action being taken against current offenders, and current offenders are not out on the streets for months, sometimes even years at a time” (p. 1). Jurisdictions looked at are: Providence, Rhode Island; Birmingham, Alabama; New York City, New York; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Boston. Massachusetts.
