Stewart Baumgartner, M.Ed. is a dedicated learning professional who has proudly served in the Corrections field since 1990.  He is currently a National Programs Advisor for the National Institute of Corrections. 

He served in both prison and jail environments and retired from his work with the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation in 2022. A long career that allowed him to work in prisons and jails, security, and case management, and serve his coworkers as Training Director.  Along the way, he continued his professional development earning both his Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of Education degrees.  Stewart had the privilege of serving on Board of Directors for the International Association of Correctional Training Personnel for 7 years as the State Corrections Representative and most recently as Vice President. 

Stewart has developed and implemented trainings in leadership, communications, offender discipline, use of force, as well as many other courses.  He has played an integral role in the learning passport model roll out where ND DOCR has created an innovative infrastructure receiving national attention.  Stewart understands that every learner is on an individual journey and recognizes the need to meet them where they are at on the learning continuum.
