Stephen Amos serves as the Jails Division Chief at the National Institute of Corrections, U.S. Department of Justice, a position he has held for over a decade. As a distinguished public safety executive, Mr. Amos brings more than thirty years of experience advancing sustainable correctional capacity and pioneering public policy initiatives in the United States and Afghanistan. His areas of expertise encompass crisis leadership, change management, technical assistance and training, strategic planning, and cost containment. Mr. Amos has contributed to numerous professional publications and is regarded as a subject-matter expert for the bestselling book, The Art of Crisis Leadership. He holds a Master’s Degree in Law Enforcement and Correctional Administration.

In his leadership role, Mr. Amos oversees the NIC Jails Division's management and supervision. His responsibilities encompass correctional program planning and policy development; oversight of cooperative agreements and contract administration; personnel and fiscal management; technology integration and program evaluation; and fostering professional relationships with national, state, and local agencies and organizations. Mr. Amos also serves as a primary liaison with the media and public.
