Women and the Criminal Justice System

Issues surrounding women criminals, women as victims and survivors, and women as professionals are explored. This book is divided into five parts: Part I Introduction—theoretical perspectives on women and the criminal justice system; Part II Female Crime and Delinquency—women in crime, gender-specific programming for female offenders, and delinquency across the life span; Part III Drug Addiction, Prison, and Restoration—women, substance abuse, and criminal justice, the prison environment, and restorative justice for female victims and offenders; Part IV Women as Victims and Survivors—rape, wife and partner abuse, and global perspectives on women’s victimization; and Part V Women as Professionals—women in law enforcement, women in the legal profession, women in corrections, and summary and trends for the future. The text is written to be consistent with evidence-based decision making and to utilize the empowerment principle.
