There are 4 sections of this program held at different times during the year. Each section covers the same content, so you only need to attend one. You may apply to one or all of the sections, but only need to attend one of them.

Program Goal

The Frontline Leadership Course aims to advance public safety by shaping and enhancing Frontline Leadership staff and practices through training the leaders of tomorrow.

Program Overview and History

The Frontline Leadership Course was developed in response to an observed need to provide more formalized training to develop, support, enhance, and expand the role of the frontline supervisor. In the past, Frontline Leaders have received little to no formal training in how to transition from frontline worker to a supervisor. The new Frontline Leadership curriculum was designed to align supervisory training across disciplines and to enhance the knowledge and skill base available to those in the role.

LEADERSHIP FOCUS

NIC recognizes the important role of supervisory staff in successful agency outcomes and the safety of incarcerated/supervised individuals, staff, the public, and the orderly operations of correctional agencies. The most successful agencies in corrections are those whose leadership recognizes the key role frontline leadership plays in organizational readiness to change and the ability of agencies to fulfill their missions, values and goals. During this course, we will concentrate on the prominence of this leadership role, and the knowledge and skills to effectively supervise on behalf of their organizations.

PROGRAM DELIVERY

The Frontline Leadership Course incorporates a variety of instructional strategies, including lectures, small group work, and individual activities all in a virtual format.

Eligibility: All new supervisors, one year or less, are eligible for participation.

About Travel-Related Expenses

If participant travel is required, authorized travel-related expenses will be reimbursed within 60 to 90 days of the conclusion of this event. Flights are paid for in advance by NIC. Reimbursable expenses include lodging, per diem (meals and incidentals), baggage, parking, and mileage. Additional details for reimbursable expenses will be provided when travel arrangements are made by NIC.
