"Frequencies of self-harm behaviors and attempted and completed suicide are higher among correctional populations than in the general population. Prior research also suggests that offenders in the community are at greater risk to commit suicide than incarcerated prisoners. Although the majority of offenders supervised by the corrections system live in the community, researchers have very little information about suicide among probationers and parolees."
