NIC is looking for training participants to form an agency team of 4-6 individuals for Safety Matters: Managing Relationships in Women’s Facilities. This blended learning training program includes a 4 hr. web-based Virtual Instructor Lead Training (VILT) scheduled for early February, intersession assignments (up to 8 hours), 2.5 days on site classroom Instructor Lead Training (ILT) scheduled for February 25-27, 2020, and brief follow up remote coaching. Additionally, a limited number of participants, selected from this class who demonstrate proficiency with the material, will be invited to the follow-up 2.5 days on site Training of Staff Trainers scheduled for March 2020. The follow-up Training for Staff Trainers is designed to build in-house training capacity for the agency on this material. The overall purpose of all phases of this training is to build capacity among corrections practitioners to implement policies and practices that support safe and healthy relationships with and among female inmates. The content of the training is built upon research and correctional best practices. At the conclusion of the training, participants will be able to effectively use communication skills to respectfully manage inmate relationships and intervene during potentially unsafe situations. This is an advanced curriculum designed to build upon pre-existing gender-responsive knowledge, motivational interviewing skills, and an understanding of the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards and strategies to support sexual safety. Candidates with a comprehensive background of the aforementioned skillsets will be given favorable consideration.
