The present study examined the effect of mental health and substance abuse diagnoses had on probation officers’ (PO) perception of risk and the impact on their case management decisions.

The training curriculum provides comprehensive, interactive training lessons designed to increase competence about sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression (SOGIE), while providing practitioners with increased knowledge, tools, and resources for working with lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) youth in the juvenile justice system.

More innovative programs now use a UDT (urine drug testing) paradigm with more frequent, random testing providing rapid results and certain, swift consequences and addiction treatment when warranted or requested. Studies have shown these new programs—the foundation of which is frequent, random UDTs—to significantly reduce drug use, criminal recidivism, and incarceration.

Georgia lawmakers passed a probation reform bill in March. The bill would, among other things, shorten probation sentences and reduce the caseloads of probation officers who are spread thin.

In 2011 and 2012, the Oregon Department of Justice (ODOJ), Crime Victims’ Services Division (CVSD) initiated a Listening Tour with the nine federally recognized tribes in Oregon.
