The Prison System and The Jail System

Delaware has a unified system, which means there is an integrated state-level prison and jail system. There are six states with unified systems. They are: Alaska, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Rhode Island, and Vermont.

As of December 31, 2021, the number of prisoners under the jurisdiction of State of Delaware correctional authorities was 4,810 located in 12 state facilities. The Delaware Department of Corrections had a staff of 2,500 employees and a budget of $350 million.

Connecticut has a unified system which means there is an integrated state-level prison and jail system. There are six states with unified systems. They are: Alaska, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Rhode Island, and Vermont.

As of December 31, 2021, the number of prisoners under the jurisdiction of State of Connecticut correctional authorities was 5,607 located in 16 state facilities and held in the custody of private prisons. The Connecticut Department of Corrections had a budget of $687,788,601.

The Jail System

Colorado has 60 jails in 64 counties. The jail population in 2021 was 10,200.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2021, the number of prisoners under the jurisdiction of the State of Colorado correctional authorities was 15,783 located in 21 state prisons and held in custody of private prisons or local jails. Colorado operated facilities had a budget of $19,465,170 million.

The Jail System

California has 114 jails in 58 counties. The jail population in 2021 was 58,989.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2021, the number of prisoners under the jurisdiction of the State of California correctional authorities was 101,389 located in 74 state prisons and held in custody of private prisons or local jails. California operated facilities had a staff of 57,402 employees and a budget of $16 billion.

The Jail System

Arkansas has 67 jails in 75 counties. The jail population in 2021 was 9,454.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2021, the number of prisoners under the jurisdiction of the State of Arkansas correctional authorities was 17,022 located in 24 state prisons and held in custody of private prisons or local jails. Arkansas operated facilities had a staff of 4,520 employees and a budget of $359,869,988.

The Jail System

Arizona has 16 jails in 15 counties. The jail population in 2021 was 11,028.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2021, the number of prisoners under the jurisdiction of the State of Arizona correctional authorities was 33,914 located in 12 state prisons and held in custody of private prisons or local jails. Arizona operated facilities had a staff of roughly 10,000 employees.

The Jail and Prison System

Alabama has 107 jails in 67 counties. The jail population in 2021 was 15,845.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2021, the number of prisoners under the jurisdiction of the State of Alabama correctional authorities was 25,032 located in 14 state prisons and held in custody of private prisons or local jails. State operated facilities had a budget of $562,693,657.
