The Prison System and The Jail System
Delaware has a unified system, which means there is an integrated state-level prison and jail system. There are six states with unified systems. They are: Alaska, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
As of December 31, 2021, the number of prisoners under the jurisdiction of State of Delaware correctional authorities was 4,810 located in 12 state facilities. The Delaware Department of Corrections had a staff of 2,500 employees and a budget of $350 million.
