The Prison System

As of December 31, 2020, the number of prisoners under the jurisdiction of the State of California correctional authorities was 97,328 located in 35 state prisons and held in custody of private prisons or local jails. Arkansas has 41 jails in 75 counties. The jail population in 2020 was 9,460.
