The Prison and Jail System

Delaware has a unified system which means there is an integrated state-level prison and jail system. There are six states with unified systems. They are: Alaska, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Rhode Island, and Vermont.

As of December 31, 2016, Delaware has 3 counties with 11 facilities and an incarcerated population of 6,585. There are 2,500 staff positions with a budget of $155 million.

Connecticut has a unified system which means there is an integrated state-level prison and jail system. There are six states with unified systems. They are: Alaska, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Rhode Island, and Vermont.

As of December 31, 2016, Connecticut has 8 counties with 16 facilities and an incarcerated population of 14,957. There are 5,336 staff positions with a budget of $608 million.

The Jail System

California has 114 jails in 58 counties, with a jail population of approximately 82,220.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2016, the California prison population was 130,390 located in 35 prisons, with a staff of 3,152 employees and budget of $1.06 billion.

The Community Corrections System

As of December 31, 2016, the California community corrections population was -- under probation and -- under parole.

The Jail System

Arkansas has 75 jails in 75 counties, with a jail population of approximately 8,610 .

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2016, the Arkansas prison population was 17,537 located in 19 prisons, with a staff of 3,800 employees and budget of $338 million.

The Community Corrections System

As of December 31, 2016, the Arkansas community corrections population was -- under probation and -- under parole.

The Jail System

Arizona has 22 jails in 15 counties, with a jail population of approximately 13,970 .

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2016, the Arizona prison population was 42,320 located in 10 prisons, with a staff of 9,184 employees and budget of $1.08 billion.

The Community Corrections System

As of December 31, 2016, the Arizona community corrections population was -- under probation and -- under parole.

As of December 31, 2016, Alaska has 19 boroughs plus 10 geographical census areas.There are 12 prison facilities and 15 locally operated jails.

The jail population is 306, and the prison population is 4,434. There are 1,871 staff positions with a budget of $317 million.

Alabama has 132 jails in 67 counties, with a jail population of approximately 15,580.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2016, the Alabama prison population was 28,883 located in 16 prisons, with a staff of 3,167 employees and budget of $451 million.

As of December 31, 2016, the Alabama community corrections population was -- under probation and -- under parole.

The Jail System

Colorado has 61 jails in 64 counties, with a jail population of approximately 11,660.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2016, the Colorado prison population was 20,168 located in 23 prisons, with a staff of 4,133 employees and budget of $922 million.

The Community Corrections System

As of December 31, 2016, the Colorado's community corrections population was 38,536 under probation and 8,940 under parole.
