The Jail System

Wisconsin has 72 counties. According to surveys completed in 2013, there are 79 jail and adult detention facilities,with a population of 12,150 inmates.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2015, the Wisconsin prison population was 22,975. The department manages 18 correctional institutions, 1 holds facilities and 16 correctional centers for adults and 2 schools for juveniles. The 2015-17 biennium agency budget request was $2.6 billion.

The Jail System

Wyoming has 23 counties. According to surveys completed in 2013, there are 23 jail and adult detention facilities, with a population of 1,463 inmates.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2015, the Wyoming prison population was 2,424. During FY2016, the Department employed 1,245 staff members and had an FY2015 budget of $302 million.

The Community Corrections System

During FY2015, the Department of Corrections Division of Field Services supervised an average daily population for probation and parole of 6,522.

The Jail System

Washington has 39 counties. According to surveys completed in 2013, there are 68 jail and adult detention facilities, with a population of 12,150 inmates.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2015, the Washington prison population was 18,284. As of December 31, 2016 the Washington Department of Corrections is operating 12 prisons and 16 work release facilities. The proposed corrections budget for FY2017-2019 biennium is $1.882 billion. In FY2015, the average daily cost per offender was $91.76.

The Jail System

Virginia has 95 counties. According to surveys completed in 2013, there are 78 jail and adult detention facilities, with a population of 28,690 inmates.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2015, the Virginia prison population was 38,403. The Department operated 25 Major Institutions, 9 Field Units, 5 Work Centers, 3 Diversion Centers, and 3 Detention Centers. The agency's expenditures for FY2016 were $1.2 billion.

The Jail System

Vermont has 14 counties. Vermont has a combined jail-prison system.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2015, the Vermont prison population was 1,750. For FY 2016, the Vermont Department of Corrections had a budget of $160 million with 1,072 authorized employee positions.

The Community Corrections System

As of Dec. 31, 2015, there were 5,170 adults on probation and 1,090 adults on parole.

The Jail System

Utah has 29 counties. According to surveys completed in 2013, there are 28 jail and adult detention facilities, with a population of 7,170 inmates.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2015, the Utah prison population was 6,492.

The Community Corrections System

The Utah Department of Corrections' Division of Adult Probation & Parole supervises probationers and parolees over five regions. As of January 2017, Utah had an average of 3,690 parolees and 12,793 probationers.

The Jail System

Texas has 254 counties. According to surveys completed in 2013, there are 321 jail and adult detention facilities, with a population of 66,210 inmates.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2015, the Texas prison population was 163,909. The TDCJ operates state prisons, state jails, parole services, and provides certain oversight of community supervision (previously know as adult probation). The Department's annual budget was over $3.4 billion.

The Jail System

Tennessee has 95 counties. According to surveys completed in 2013, there are 100 jail and adult detention facilities, with a population of 26,630 inmates.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2015, the Tennessee prison population was 28,172. The Tennessee Department of Correction has over 6,000 employees with an FY2016 budget of over $920 million.

The Community Corrections System

As of June 30, 2016, the Tennessee felon population consisted of 58,256 probationers, 12,678 parolees and 7,891 in community corrections.

The Jail System

South Dakota has 66 counties. According to surveys completed in 2013, there are 34 jail and adult detention facilities, with a population of 1,682 inmates.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2015, the South Dakota prison population was 3,564. The Adult Corrections System consists of the three main adult facilities, a prison annex, four Community Work Centers for minimum-security inmates and parolees in the Community Transition Program, prison industries and parole.

The Jail System

South Carolina has 46 counties. According to surveys completed in 2013, there are 50 jail and adult detention facilities, with a population of 10,880 inmates.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2015, the South Carolina prison population was 20,929. The agency operates 23 facilities and had 4,217 filled positions as of September 1, 2016.

The Community Corrections System

As of Dec. 31, 2015, there were 33,843 adults on probation and 5,021 adults on parole.
