In 2019, the National Institute of Corrections (NIC) issued a Facilitating Behavior Change with Persons Under Community Supervision Request for Proposal (RFP). The RFP asked interested parties for the design and development of specialized training resources that would provide front-line community supervision staff the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to incorporate Core Correctional Practices and effectively apply during one-on-one interactions with persons under community supervision. The project design included the development of curriculum for Virtual Instructor Led Training as well as Instructor Led Training for community supervision staff. The training was designed to empower community supervision staff to bring about client behavior change that would lead to reduced recidivism, increased public safety, and improved success rates of adults on probation and parole. Community Resources for Justice staff along with NIC staff will discuss the project vision and goals, share curriculum examples, and provide an overview of the piloting the curriculum process. NIC staff will also outline the next steps for training curriculum by introduction of the regional training design and training for trainers’ development.
