The Prison and Jail System
Connecticut has a unified system which means there is an integrated state-level prison and jail system. There are six states with unified systems. They are: Alaska, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
As of December 31, 2016, Connecticut has 8 counties with 16 facilities and an incarcerated population of 14,957. There are 5,336 staff positions with a budget of $608 million.
The Community Corrections System
