As of December 31, 2018, the number of prisoners under the jurisdiction of the State of Wisconsin correctional authorities was 24,064 located in 24 state prisons and held in custody of private prisons or local jails. State operated facilities had a staff of 10,124 employees and budget of $1.243 billion.
The Community Corrections System
As of December 31, 2018, Wisconsin's community corrections population under probation was 42,909 and parole was 21,015.
