As of December 31, 2019, the number of prisoners under the jurisdiction of Montana correctional authorities was 4,723 located in 5 state prisons and held in custody of private prisons or local jails. State operated facilities had a staff of 1,400 employees and a budget of $209,790,390.
The Community Corrections System
As of December 31, 2019, Montana community corrections population was 9,589 under probation and 1,533 under parole.
