As of December 31, 2020, the number of prisoners under the jurisdiction of Wisconsin correctional authorities was 20,298 located in 18 state prisons and held in custody of private prisons or local jails. State operated facilities had a staff of 10,241 employees and budget of $1,296,551,490.
The Community Corrections System
As of December 31, 2020, Wisconsin community corrections population was 38,385 under probation and 1,683 under parole.
