As of December 31, 2022, the number of prisoners under the jurisdiction of Maryland correctional authorities was 15,637 located in 13 state prisons and held in custody of private prisons or local jails. State operated facilities had a staff of 9,251 employees and a budget of $294,616,792.
The Community Corrections System
As of December 31, 2022, Maryland community corrections population was 59,320 under probation and 8,170 under parole.

Violent and property crime rates are provided by the Federal Bureau of Investigations.
