The Jail System

Colorado has 64 counties. According to surveys completed in 2013, there are 60 jail and adult detention facilities, with a population of 11,660 inmates.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2015, the Colorado prison population was 20,168. The Colorado Department of Corrections operates 20 public and three private facilities. The projected employee count for FY 2016-17 is 6,242.

The Community Corrections System

As of December 31, 2016, the Department supervised 8,940 parolees. The Colorado Division of Probation Services administers adult and juvenile probation within Colorado’s 22 judicial districts. The number of adult offenders sentenced to state probation in FY 2016 was 38,536 and on June 30, 2015 there were 53,813 adult offenders on regular supervision.
