The Jail System

Minnesota has 87 counties. According to surveys completed in 2013, there are 76 jail and adult detention facilities, with a population of 6,400 inmates.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2015, the Minnesota prison population was 10,798. The Minnesota DOC employed 4,357 staff members at the beginning of FY2016.

The Community Corrections System

As of Dec. 31, 2015, there were 98,258 adults on probation. Minnesota does not have a parole board, rather it has instituted Determinant Sentencing with no time off for good behavior.
