Rhode Island has a combined prison-jail system.

The Prison System

The Rhode Island Department of Corrections is a unified system, there are no county jails. The Department operates seven housing facilities and employs 1,400 people. As of December 31, 2015, the Rhode Island prison population was 3,248.

The Community Corrections System

As of December 2014, 24,393 offenders were under Adult Probation and Parole, with 8,447 under active supervision.
