The Jail System

South Dakota has 66 counties. According to surveys completed in 2013, there are 34 jail and adult detention facilities, with a population of 1,682 inmates.

The Prison System

As of December 31, 2015, the South Dakota prison population was 3,564. The Adult Corrections System consists of the three main adult facilities, a prison annex, four Community Work Centers for minimum-security inmates and parolees in the Community Transition Program, prison industries and parole.

The Community Corrections System

As of December 31, 2015, the Arizona prison population was 42,719. As of Dec. 31, 2015, there were 7,118 adults on probation and 2,6,52 adults on parole.
