The Prison System
As of December 31, 2018, the number of prisoners under the jurisdiction of the State of Florida correctional authorities was 97,538 located in 143 state prisons and held in custody of private prisons or local jails. State operated facilities had a staff of 24,225 employees and budget of $2.4 billion.
The Community Corrections System
As of December 31, 2018, Florida community corrections population under probation was 205,033 and under parole was 4,345. Only offenders sentenced for offenses committed prior to October 1, 1983, are eligible for parole, as it was abolished for all offenses committed after that date.

The data on prison population and incarcerate rate come from the Prisoner in 2018 report released by the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS). That report includes the count of prisoners in the unified systems of Alaska, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
Violent and property crime rates are provided by the Federal Bureau of Investigations.
The number of counties per state comes from the United States Census Bureau.
