From 2019 to 2022, the Vera Institute of Justice partnered with Black and Pink National to report on a large-scale survey of currently justice involved transgender people regarding their experiences in state prisons. This survey results showed widespread challenges for transgender justice involved, including high rates of solitary confinement and limited access to affirming healthcare. Recommendations include improved housing options, healthcare access, and accountability to enhance safety and dignity for transgender justice involved individuals.
